Marine environmental monitoring station based on IoT technology
The research group of the department of computer science and engineering, Ho Chi Minh City Polytechnic University and the Sydney University of Technology (UTS), Hanoi University of Technology have implemented a marine environment monitoring station based on The first IoT technology in Xuan Dai Bay, Song Cau Town, Phu Yen Province.

The monitoring station uses the most advanced technologies and designs in the field of robotics, connectivity of things (IoT), big data analysis and mechatronics. The station provides monitoring data directly from the marine environment with a frequency of 5 minutes / time, processing delay of 0.5 seconds. Monitoring indicators include temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen content, salinity and water transparency.

The system is designed to withstand tropical storms and the harsh conditions of the marine environment. Advanced automatic mechanical parts are applied for maintenance to extend the life of the sensors. For locations with unstable 3 / 4G connection, the system will use “multi-hop IoT” connection method to transfer data.

This is one of the first marine environmental monitoring systems in Vietnam and also one of the few systems in the world that can monitor marine environmental indicators in real time, under the harsh conditions of environment, and frequent storms.

For the aquaculture industry, one of the major challenges for this strategy is the environmental pollution problem in the aquaculture area and related diseases as the farming density grows to a large scale. The monitoring systems are designed to help the local authorities design appropriate mechanisms to manage and organize the sustainable aquaculture, protect the clean marine environment and serve the needs of local tourism development.
