Starting from the end of August, Da Nang City officially applied three-keyword address positioning technology (what3words) to its public platform.

Last year, Da Nang put into operation the Digital Journey application - a platform that allows people to manage and monitor the journey of ambulances, fire trucks and garbage trucks locally. Up to now, more than 15,000 ambulances have been operated and managed through this system.

Recently, the city decided to integrate what3words three-keyword geolocation technology to shorten the time to locate emergency calls and help dispatch ambulances to the scene faster.

what3words can tell the exact location down to each 3 x 3m square through three keywords. This helps users quickly identify the location that needs to be reported, especially in residential areas and alleys that do not have clear house numbers or street names; or in large areas with only one common address (such as beaches, stadiums, parks...).

In emergency situations, callers often do not have enough time to describe their exact location by phone or text. Not to mention that if they are in a strange area, the story becomes even more difficult and tense. 3-word addressing technology is designed to address these situations.

Usage is very simple. When opening the Digital Journey app, users can see what3words address for their current location, for example: ///boat.carriage.bowl, from where they can communicate with services emergency to get correct help.

Startup company what3words (UK) said it is providing this smart positioning technology to city authorities for free to serve public benefits (expected for 3 years). Previously, what3words worked with BusMap/Phenikaa MaaS (Vietnam), the unit responsible for building the Digital Journey, to integrate technology.
