Denmark shared energy storage experiences with Vietnam
Completing and publishing the Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2023, developing a Technology Handbook on energy storage and power conversion; training and capacity building for staffs on standards and certification for offshore wind power projects; develop a preliminary proposal on energy consumption norms; building a legal framework on economical and efficient use of energy... shared by Danish experts at the workshop: "Grid connection regulations for energy storage battery systems in Vietnam" by the Ambassador Danish restaurant and Electricity Regulatory Authority (Ministry of Industry and Trade) jointly held on August 17, 2023 in Hanoi.

Mr. Tran Tue Quang - Deputy Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority said that in the National Electricity Development Plan for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 (Electricity Planning VIII) approved by the Government, National electricity demand by 2030 will be about 505 billion kWh. To meet this electricity demand, about 150,000 MW of power capacity is expected. Power planning VIII also oriented the development of the power source structure in the direction of gradually reducing fossil energy sources. It is expected that by 2030, the total capacity of wind and solar power will be about 41 GW, accounting for nearly 27% of the installed capacity of the whole system.

The Deputy Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority added that, within the framework of the Vietnam - Denmark Energy Partnership Program for the period of 2020-2025, the Electricity Regulatory Authority has coordinated with experts from the Electricity Authority of Vietnam and Danish Energy Agency (DEA), the Danish Power Transmission Grid Operation Agency (ENERGINET) researched and proposed regulations on connection of energy storage battery systems for Vietnam.

At the seminar, Danish experts shared and updated information on the development trend of energy storage batteries in Denmark and Europe; Danish experiences on grid connection requirements for inverter generators, grid connection specifications for energy storage systems, forecasting and data management in power system operations integration of renewable energy sources in order to support Vietnamese regulatory agencies to have more scientific basis to develop regulations on integrating energy storage battery systems in the coming time.
