Can Tho: Putting pottery membrane into providing clean water
On March 12, Cantho City officers have welcomed two delegations from Singapore - International Enterprises and Singapore Trade Promotion Agency. At the meeting, two sides discussed about mutual cooperation possibility of providing water supply in Cantho City. The Singapore delegations introduced about newest water treatment technology – the pottery membrane technology.

Accordingly, Singapore experts will feature Ultra Filtration (UF) membrane and Reverse Osmosis (RO) technologies. UF is a pretreatment stage that was set to remove impurity particles and bacteria. And then RO stage helps to remove dissolved solids. RO stage will use pottery membrane to replace conventional polymer. The UF-RO system was considered as a low cost and high-tech method that can help reduce water treatment cost, loss ratio in water transmission process to households (water loss rate in Cantho is 30%, meanwhile 4,5% in Singapore.).

Mr. Dao Anh Dung, Vice chairman of Cantho People’s Committee said: Can Tho is a region with abundant water resources from surrounding canals, rivers, etc. However, it always exists a real situation that it is rare for clean water because it is lack of waste water treatment technologies, techniques turn salty water into clean water. The goal of the city to 2015 would reach 85% of rural households to be used clean water, but it only achieved 45% so far. City officers are looking forward to cooperate with Singapore in water supply through UF technology.

In the immediate future, two sides will cooperate on water supply works in O Mon district with capacity of 1000 m3/day, and assess its efficiency for expanding.
