Application of biotechnology to create better competitiveness for Vietnamese agricultural products
The breakthrough of science, especially biotechnology with inventions of genetic technology, genetic engineering, microbiology has helped farmers to change the structure of crops and animals. Increase income by increasing productivity and reducing the cost of pesticides, at the same time, helping to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products. However, it concerns remain regarding the application of biotechnology in agriculture.

In the afternoon of April 7, the Seed Trade Association (VSTA) together with the Central Vietnam Farmers Association (HND) and the International Organization and Application and Acquisition of Agricultural Biotechnology (ISAAA) co-organized the workshop with the topic: "Contribution of biotech crops to agriculture in Vietnam".

The area of biotech maize in Vietnam has yet to meet expectations

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Tran Xuan Dinh - Vice President, General Secretary of the Vietnam Seed Trade Association - said: In Vietnam, biotech crops have been officially licensed for commercial cultivation from 2014-2015 in the corn. Maize is also one of the main crops in the agricultural production structure and our country is also one of the most cultivated countries in the world. The introduction of biotech varieties at that time was seen as one of the important tools to further improve productivity and quality of production, add value and help corn farmers to make more profit, thereby strengthening Vietnam's capacity to secure supplies for the domestic food and feed chain.
