Conservation and development of aquatic resources - a condition for Vietnam's seafood industry to develop sustainably
The Directorate of Fisheries and localities are making efforts to conserve, protect and develop aquatic resources in order to bring Vietnam's seafood industry to a sustainable development.

Positive changes in aquatic resource conservation


At the meeting "Summarizing the first 6 months of the year and implementing tasks and solutions on the conservation and development of aquatic resources in the last 6 months of 2022" taking place on July 28, 2022, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Fisheries (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Nguyen Quang Hung said that over the years, the conservation, protection and development of aquatic resources has been highly valued. Legal documents in the field of protection and development of aquatic resources have been gradually completed.

Some localities have developed and promulgated policies to encourage and support the transformation of livelihoods for fishing communities, especially fishermen who mainly rely on resources in coastal areas and lake beds, contributing to the transformation of recovery and development of aquatic resources; conducting surveys on aquatic resources in coastal areas and inland areas as a basis for quota allocation in fishing.

Non-governmental organizations, domestic and foreign businesses continue to pay attention to, invest in and sponsor activities to conserve and develop aquatic resources throughout the country, said Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung.

For marine conservation management, the Directorate of Fisheries has developed and completed the explanatory report "Project on establishment of new marine protected areas and restoration of marine ecosystems by 2025, to ensure the area of marine and coastal conservation zones accounts for 3% of Vietnam's sea area". To guide localities to complete the dossiers of establishment of marine protected areas. Up to now, 10 localities have developed and promulgated plans to implement the Communication Project to improve community capacity on marine conservation by 2030.
