Plan of action to respond to climate change of the Industry and Trade Sector in the period of 2021-2030
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just cooperated with the World Bank to hold a consultation workshop "Developing action plans to respond to climate change of the industry and trade period of 2021 - 2030" on April 26, in Quang Ninh province.


The Ministry of Industry and Trade is building an action plan to respond to climate change of the industry and trade sector in the period of 2021 - 2030

Mr. Tang The Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Conservation (Energy Conservation) and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade - chaired the workshop, with the participation of representatives of the Ministries: Natural Resources and Environment, Planning and Investment, Transport, Finance, MARD research institutes, World Bank experts, Vietnam Electricity Corporations, Petrol and Gas and Coal and Mineral Industries of Vietnam.

At the workshop, Mr. Tang The Hung emphasized the Government's commitment to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the National Contribution to Update Self-Determination Report (updated NDC) submitted to the UNFCCC in September / 2020: with domestic resources, by 2030, Vietnam will reduce 9% of total GHG emissions compared with the normal development scenario (BAU); the reduction increases to 27% when international support is received through bilateral, multilateral cooperation and new mechanisms under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. This commitment was once again confirmed by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the Summit on Climate Change April 22-23, 2021 chaired by US President Joe Biden.

Also at the workshop, Mr. Le Hong Giang - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ninh Province - shared his own way of "changing the mode of development from brown to green" for socio-economic development, at the same time environmental protection, response to climate change in the unique context of the province. When the whole political system was fiercely engaged, the awareness of the people also increased significantly, making Quang Ninh's environmental governance index always in the highest group in the country, contributing to Quang Ninh's continuous leadership  on Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI) and the Competitiveness Index (PCI) for 2020.

In addition, the project consultant presented climate change scenarios and a draft Framework of Action Plan to respond to climate change for the period of 2021 - 2030. The draft outlines the tasks, the solution belongs to three groups of tasks in terms of institutions and policies; climate change adaptation and mitigation.

In addition, the Vietnam National Petrol and Gas Group, Vietnam Coal - Mineral Industry Group, Vietnam Electricity Group also exchanged views on the Group's achievements in the response to recent climate change. Representatives from the units participated in comments and shared practical experiences and activities of the unit in response to climate change in the period of 2010-2020 and it is expected that the contents will be deployment in the period of 2021-2030. These are important information for the completion of the action plan to respond to climate change in the Industry and Trade sector in the period of 2021-2030.

Representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Department of Energy Conservation highly appreciated the efforts and results achieved by corporations and units in the response to climate change and requested consultants to research and absorb ideas at the workshop to continue to improve the action plan to respond to climate change of the industry and trade sector to ensure feasibility, in accordance with the industry's reality and national conditions.
