Can Tho became a locality where no bear was captive
On May 29, Can Tho City Functional Agency transferred a bear to the Bear Rescue Station of Cat Tien National Park (Free The Bears). This is also the last captive bear in the area; officially Can Tho became the 22th locality in the country without captive bears.

A bear was delivered to the Bear Rescue Station of Cat Tien National park.

This is the third bear transfer to take place this year, thanks to the efforts of the government and partner organizations to promote the end of bear captive farming in Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang - Director of Can Tho Forest Protection Department said: "In the process of wildlife protection propaganda, Can Tho FPD worked closely with bear owners. As the captive breeding was not satisfied with the condition, the owner agreed to transfer the bears to the authorities to help protect the bear. The exchange among the Forest Protection Department and the owner and the Bear Rescue Station of Cat Tien National Park is basically consistent with the ultimate goal of preserving Vietnamese bears."

This bear transfer marks a major step in efforts by the Nature Education Center (ENV) and its partners, the World Organization for Protection of Animals, the Four Paws Organization and the Government of Vietnam to encourage local models where no bear is captive in accordance with the roadmap adopted in 2017 to end bear farming in Vietnam.

The addition of two localities doesn’t have captive bears, show that the end of bear farming in Vietnam. ENV calls on other localities in the country to remain their bears , they take specific measures to become a province/city without any captive bear.
