"Cau Duc" Pineapple is protected by geographical indications
"Cau Duc" Pineapple of Hau Giang province was granted the Certificate of Geographical Indication Registration No. 00092 in accordance with Decision No. 4523 / QD-SHTT by the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam. The Sub-Department of Agro-Forestry and Fishery Quality Control, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hau Giang province is the organization managing this geographical indication.


Cau Duc pineapple was planted in the 1930s in the Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang, came here by the Chinese to settle down and brought this pineapple variety. Goods produced at that time gathered at Cau Duc pineapple to exchange and trade. Thence, the name "Cau Duc pineapple" has its own name to distinguish it from pineapples grown in other regions. The name of Cau Duc pineapple appeared to date over 90 years.

The Cau Duc pineapple is well-known for its sweet, crunchy taste and is associated with the current city name Vi Thanh. This is also the main crop of the people of Vi Thanh city and Long My district, now selected as the main crop to help increase people's income and create impetus to build a new countryside. Cau Duc pineapple has long been brand "famous" of Hau Giang province. For many years, Cau Duc is in the list of 10 key products of Hau Giang province, moreover, it is also one of the three key strategic products that need to focus on development.

Cau Duc pineapple is a Queen-like pineapple, with a vertical cylinder, dark yellow color, with many protruding eyes, deep eye pits, mild aroma and sweet taste. Cau Duc pineapple fruit has large size, weight 1.14 - 1.42 kg / fruit, diameter 13.20 - 17.65 cm, height 16.46 - 20.74 cm. Each fruit has 113 - 117 eyes and the edible portion is 64 - 76%. In addition, Cau Duc pineapple also has characteristics of quality, including: Total dissolved dry matter content of 14.04 - 16.16 obx; total sugar 8.81 - 11.49%; Total acid content 0.52 - 0.78%; and Vitamin C content: 27.70 - 37.70 mg / 100 g.

The reputation and unique quality of Cau Duc pineapple are due to the natural conditions of the geographic area. The geographical area is low-lying, with an average elevation of 1 meter above sea level, and has an intricate system of artificial canals. The geographical area has 2 main soil groups: potential acid sulfate soils and active alum soils with heavy mechanical composition (clay rate> 50%), good water retention, preventing pineapple trees from being dehydrated during growth and develop. Soil with high porosity (> 55%) is a favorable condition for deep and wide root of pineapple, providing nutrients for plants during development. In addition, Cau Duc pineapple cultivation soil also has a high content of exchanged cation (Mg2 + content> 2.87 meq / 100g of soil) and the total organic carbon content is from medium to rich (4.79 - 5, 92%), makes Cau Duc pineapple sweet and watery and helps pineapple plant against boiled leaves in the fruit development stage.

'Cau Duc' pineapple is usually grown in Vinh Vien A commune, Long My district; ward 7 and communes of Vi Tan, Hoa Luu, Tan Tien, Hoa Tien belong to Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang province.
