Prime Minister proposed to the United Nations radical solutions to respond to climate change
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recommended to the United Nations Security Council, with the primary mission of maintaining international peace and security, to gather the efforts of the international community together to act decisively with radical solutions to respond to climate change.


At the invitation of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the February 2021 rotating chairman of the United Nations Security Council, in the evening of February 23, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and spoke at the online Executive Summit of the United Nations Security Council with the topic "Addressing threats to international peace and security related to climate."

The conference, there were leaders of the United Nations, leaders of many countries, leaders of international organizations. Speaking at the session, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc proposed radical solutions to the United Nations Security Council to respond to climate change.

With the topic "Addressing threats to international peace and security related to climate", the conference focused on discussing the contents of assessment of efforts to strengthen and adapt to climate change to help prevent conflict risks and support to build peace and stability in countries and regions; the role of global climate governance / country-determined contributions / national adaptation plans in addressing conflict risks related to climate; contributions of the Security Council to regional and inter-national cooperation to address the risk of responding to conflicts related to climate change; mainstreaming climate change and security issues into the agenda of the Security Council; the role of the Security Council in addressing climate-related security risks.

This is the first time that the head of the Government of Vietnam attended and spoke at an event within the framework of the United Nations Security Council, demonstrating Vietnam's role and responsibility contribution to the common efforts of the community of International cooperation in responding to climate change, the current top global challenge.

Speaking at the session, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said that climate change caused many countries to suffer heavy losses, especially developed countries relying heavily on agriculture, making people meet more difficulties, easy to cause other consequences of the society. Climate change can cause social inequality, hurting women and children.
