Support to develop and implement a National Plan on Climate Change Adaptation
On January 22, in Hanoi, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment held a workshop for the project “Supporting the development and implementation of the National Adaptation Plan with climate change in Vietnam ”(NAP-GCF).


Mr. Tang The Cuong, Director of the Department of Climate Change and Mrs. Sitara Syed, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Vietnam chaired the workshop. Attending workshop, there were representatives from the Ministries participating in the project: Ministrys of Planning and Investment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Transport, Health and representatives of World Bank, German Development Cooperation, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Korean International Cooperation Agency.

Speaking at the Workshop, Director General Tang The Cuong shared about the current situation, climate change has taken place more extreme globally and in Vietnam. Especially in 2020, the Mekong River Delta and the Central region reoccur droughts on a large scale, more severe than the drought of saline intrusion in 2015-2016. According to the plan, in the immediate future, in the first quarter of 2021, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, UNDP and relevant ministries and agencies will develop and operate an online interface of the database on climate change and climate risk assessment and vulnerability for priority sectors. It is expected that by the first quarter of 2022, technical reports and guidelines for NAP implementation, along with the proposed monitoring and evaluation system framework for these sectors. By the third quarter of 2022, there will be a proposal for the implementation of the next NAP phase.

At the workshop, UNDP representatives shared about the regulations on the management of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) project and discussed with the representatives of the ministries and sectors on the implementation process in the next time. It is expected that UNDP will send the first report of the project to GCF by the end of January 2021.
