Re-launch of solar glass production project in Vung Tau

Japan's Nippon Sheet Glass Company recently said it would invest about $ 365 million in expanding solar glass production in the context of declining demand for renewable energy in Japan. According to the plan, the company will restart the factory in Ba Ria - Vung Tau (Vietnam) and build another factory in the United States.

Nippon Sheet Glass is expected to increase the capacity of specialty glass used in energy batteries by approximately 30% compared to the present. This product can also be used for other purposes in construction.
It is expected that the factory in Vietnam will be restarted in mid-2019. Previously, in 2016, producing glass factory for liquid crystal display in Ba Ria - Vung Tau was closed due to fierce competition from Nippon's rivals, such as Asahi Glass and Corning.
Along with the plant in Vietnam, the company will invest in the construction of a US factory, which is expected to put into operation in the second half of 2020. Currently, there is not a construction place, but is expected to be located in Ohio.
In addition, Nippon Sheet Glass will sign a long-term supply agreement with First Solar, which holds about 5 percent of the global solar battery market and is rapidly expanding production in the United States and other Asia countries as Malaysia. The completed panels will be used in large solar power projects in the United States and in Asia.
Today, major US multinational companies, such as Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble (P & G) commit to converting fossil-fuel based energy to renewable energy, in line with sustainable development of the United Nations. |
