On September 27, in Can Tho, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc presided the plenary session of the conference on sustainable development of the Mekong Delta (MD) in response to climate change. This event attracted more than 1,000 domestic and international delegates.

Speaking at the opening and direction of the conference, the prime minister said that if without good organization, we would have to pay a high price for nature such as river bank erosion, coastline, sea level rise, subsidence and etc.

However, instead of panic, it is necessary to find the best and most suitable way to do it, including the renewal of the political system and the people, turning the challenge into opportunity. The Prime Minister requested the conference to come up with a new strategic, breakthrough system of views on development, priority orientation, planning, and proposal of optimal options, potential and feasible solutions, the connectivity of the whole region, short-term and long-term measures to stabilize the life of people in the Mekong Delta.

Previously, on July 26, the conference conducted three sessions of discussion under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue - Head of Southwest Steering Committee and Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung. Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), there was Vice Minister Tran Quoc Khanh to attend and presented his report at the session.
