It's one of the big challenges for Vietnam and Mekong Delta region in the implementation of sustainability development and poverty reduction goals.
Challenging task of poverty reduction
The climate change risk will affect many aspects of community life, including livelihoods; the income of workers, especially poor workers wouldn’t ensure no longer enough life, make the goal of improving the lives to adapt to climate change of community is difficult to achieve.
According to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Yen, CARE International Organization in Vietnam, the poor in general, including the poor woman are most concentrated in the ethnic minority communities, coastal areas including Mekong Delta and Red river delta. Climate change impacts on the poor more severely because they have fewer resources to recover.
The livelihood issue of women is affected by increasing natural disasters, rising sea levels and changes in the form of rain. Women actively engage in agriculture and create self-employment, but they less access and hold the main property.
Climate change affects agriculture systems and ecology. Women are generally more dependent on land and natural resources for their livelihoods, they are more vulnerable when resources are scarce, and etc. |
