Integrating climate change into the planning of Mekong Delta region
In the morning of October 22, in Can Tho city, Ministry of Planning and Investment coordinated with Can Tho People’s Committee to hold a workshop "Planning - opportunities and challenges in integrating regional planning."


The planning of urban development should be integrated climate change issues to cope with sea level rise.

Planning work in the last years had a significant contribution to the innovation and development of national economy, planning is the basis for the level, the construction sector policies and orientations to exploit the potential advantages in economic and social development, ensuring social security.

However, besides these results, the planning also revealed many limitations and weaknesses make it difficult to operate economic and social development, in some cases, the plan has blocked investment, business production of organizations, individuals and causing a waste of resources of the country.

"The goal of the integration is a combination of measures to cope with climate change and the specific action plans as part of mitigation strategies of injuries by natural disasters and climate change, protect environment and natural resources as well as improve their livelihoods and living standards for people. Besides, the integration will help increase the sustainability of the development plans, is an opportunity for government, unions and communities to review the appropriate policies, regulations and existing institutions and etc"- Dr. Le Anh Tuan, Can Tho University said.
