Vietnam’s first chip production oven
Starting numbers 0, after many experimental researches for 4 years, ICDREC has successfully made Vietnam‘s first commercial chip.

More than 150,000 SG8V1 chips were firstly produced by Integrated Circuit Design Research and Education Center (ICD REC) in Vietnam, launched products into the market late 2014. Chip "made in Vietnam" with features and outstanding specifications compared to the same chip of Microchip firm (world chip manufacturing king) but its price lowers 30,000 VND.

Mr. Ngo Duc Hoang, ICDREC director, said the center received orders from many places and recently it won a package of 19 billion VND, provided modem for General Electric Company of Ho Chi Minh city.

Established in 2005, under National University of Ho Chi Minh city, after 3 years ICDREC was published to produce Vietnam’s first 8-bit processor chips, named SigmaK3. A next year, the center continues to launch VN801 processor chip, with high-performance version, better performance compared to SigmaK3 chip.

According to Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh People’s Committee Mr. Le Manh Ha, chip is a main product of all electronic devices; it is the most important industry of the city. The chips were manufactured by ICDREC with high quality, low cost and Vietnam intellectuality.

Presently, ICDREC is linking to build a large chip production factory with 10-hectare area in the high-tech park, district 9. By design, the plant will produce 1.8 billion chips per year, $ 90 million of revenue. ICDREC strategy is to develop models of a study unit into a model of combining research and production business, increasing revenue from businesses and reducing dependence on the state budget.
